Jon Slavet — founder, chairman & ceo
Jon is responsible for the strategic vision and overall direction of the organization. Prior to The Balance Company, Jon was Co-CEO of Guru Worldwide Inc., a human capital management company backed by American Express. Jon's previous work includes executive positions at National Public Radio, Wired Inc., and a subsidiary of Disney. Jon is an honors graduate of Dartmouth College.
Chris Mottern — former chairman, peet's coffee & tea
Chris currently serves on several Boards. Previously he served as Chairman & CEO of Peet's Coffee & Tea and was responsible for significantly expanding its presence outside the Bay Area, and for taking the company public. Prior to Peet's, Chris served five years as President of the domestic wine operation of Heublein. Chris also served as CEO of Capri Sun, Inc., one of the largest juice retailers in the nation. Chris is a graduate of the University of Connecticut.
Richard Eu — senior board advisor
Since 1989, Richard Eu has been the Group CEO of Eu Yan Sang International Ltd., a Singapore-based business of providing consumer healthcare products and services based on traditional Chinese and integrative medicine. Educated in England and earning a law degree from London University, Richard's financial and venture capital background aided a successful campaign throughout Southeast Asia; in 2003, Richard was a finalist in the coveted Ernst & Young "Entrepreneur of the Year" Award in Singapore under the Master Category. Apart from his business interests, he is involved in non-profit and community organizations.
Richard Johnson — Board of Directors
Richard Johnson brings 40 years of consumer product industry experience to The Balance Company's endeavors. In the last 25 years, he has held global executive positions at direct selling industry icons such as Tupperware and Amway. Subsequently, he founded his consultancy which focuses on strategic business development in direct selling. Adept at creating meaningful business structures including joint ventures, strategic alliances and franchise relationships, Richard is also experienced in public company management, including offerings management and investor relations. Richard earned his MBA at Harvard Business School, and a B.S. in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania.
